Holidays in the United States

There are lots of important celebrations that take place in the USA and sometimes we don't know exactly what are they about. Now we are explaining you some of them

-New Year Celebration: the night before January 1st, called "New Year's Eve" people get together at about 9pm mostly with their friends and make a big party. They dink a lot and eat all differetn kinds of food. At 11:59 pm they go all together to a same room and start the countdown 10 seconds before the new year. At 00 am they do cheers and give a passionate kiss to the person each considers.

-Independence Day: It takes place every July 4th. People wear all different kind of blue, red and white costumes and have a parade. They feel strongly identified wih this festivity. They also play fireworks and they have picnics or barbecues with their families.

-Thanksgiving day: this celebration has its origins in the meeting of the pilgrims and the native americans. People usually get together with their families and share the "thanksgiving dinner" in which you can find any kind of food such as the traditional turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, corn casserole. Some families watch the big football game or watch parades on TV.

-Halloween: It´s on October 31st. It's a very traditional festivity where children dress up and go trick or treating down the streets. People usually make Jack o laterns with pumpkins and decorate their houses and neighbourhoods.

-Christmas: this is a religious festivity where they celebrate Jesus' birth. On Christmas' Eve families usually meet and decorate their trees. They eat all together and at midnight Santa Claus arrives through the chimney, find the cookies and milk that the children left before going to bed, and leaves some presents for them, which will be opened the following morning.

Opinions section... by Giuliana

*What did you like most of the programme?
*What did you like least?
*Would you like to change anything?

- I really liked slaughter but I didn't enjoy the relay games. I'd like to change that. (Ignacio)

- I enjoyed the campfire. It was a nice moment and I enjoyed singing songs. I didn't like some games that were boring. I'd like to take away the chicken dance. I didn't like that! (Micaela)

- I liked the camp fire. It was a nice moment and I enjoyed singing songs. I didn't like when Lesley woke us up! I think that the Inmersion Programme should be longer! (Martín)

- I liked very much cooking. I think it was fun. I also liked the games. I didn't like when we talked about the Constitution. It was boring. Anyway, I wouldn't like to change anything! (Sofía)

- I really liked the activities, the people, and meeting students. I didn't like when we had to force people to speak English! What I want is not as much Spanish...
(Lesley)

- I liked very much bothering children ! I didn't like Katie's snoring. I'd like Fernando to wear a witch's hat. (Lindsay)
